What is Retail Merchandising?
The basic definition is “A Merchandiser is a function responsible for planning and managing the inventory and assortment of products within a retail or e-commerce company”. A merchandiser’s primary goal is to ensure that the right products are available at the right time, in the right quantities, and in the right locations to meet customer demand and maximise sales. The role of a Merchandiser involves analysing sales data, market trends, and historical information to forecast future demand and determine the appropriate product mix and quantities to order.
That sounds like maths to me?
Ultimately yes, with a good spreadsheet, guidance and formulas, a huge number of findings can be sourced from data. This will give your business a scope on current performance and how best to drive sales and reduce overheads. Many businesses are “scared” of maths and neglect the importance of a clear understanding of sales vs cost- profit vs loss. The sooner this data is collaborated and managed the better understanding you will have and the nicer time your customer will receive. And everyone’s goal is happy customers and healthy bank accounts. So “hate” maths, no problem. I love a spreadsheet and retail so I can help you out.
